Ride In Carlisle PA August 12 through 14th Weekend

Carlisle downtown

We got this Message from Linda of the Bicycle Club Of Philadelphia

Good Afternoon, Friends,

The Potomac Pedalers Touring Club will be hosting their annual Carlisle, PA  cycling weekend from Friday, August 12 to Sunday, August 14.   This is an all-inclusive package of hotel, rides, meals, parties, etc. This year the event will be based at the Days Inn South of Carlisle, which is ~2 to 2.5 hours west of Philadelphia. It’s a straight shot on the PA Turnpike.  Carlisle is a very charming town – it’s the county seat for Cumberland County, and the home of Dickinson College and Law School.  It’s has plenty of cafes, restaurants, other attractions, and a large bike shop, too!

If you’ve never cycled in this region of PA (Cumberland and Franklin Counties), this is a very lovely area for cycling.  A wide assortment of cue sheets are available, for picturesque routes on peaceful roads.  There will be scheduled group rides with leaders, also.

The terrain is mostly flat to rolling, with some hill-climbing here and there.  The natural beauty in this region includes several meandering creeks.  Due to the variety of terrains, there are tandem-friendly roads. It’s also a pretty area for walking and hiking – the attractive town of Carlisle is a great place to walk, and for the hikers, the trailhead for the Appalachian Trail is nearby.
